September 11th Remembrance - Saturday, September 11th

Please join Cub Scout Pack 11 in Abington on September 11th at 8:30AM at the Abington Police Department, 215 Central Street.  At exactly 8:46, we will have a moment of silence, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  We will then have a friend of the Coombs family speak, and a list of Massachusetts residents lost that day will be read.  Following that, the scouts will be presenting both the police and fire department with Hero Flags.  These are special, commemorative flags with the names of all emergency service personal lost on 9/11. We ask that all scouts wear their uniforms.  Please feel free to invite family and friends, and you are encouraged to wear red, white and blue as we not only remember the day, but celebrate our patriotism.


SKIP Benefit Dinner - Saturday, September 11th

The 4th Annual SKIP Benefit Dinner is coming up on Saturday, September 11th at 7pm. They’ll be great Italian food, desert and a cash bar. Guest speaker will be Richard Watkins, local author of “Vietnam – No Regrets”. Visit www.SkipCares.org for more information.

First Baptist Church Yard Sale - Saturday, September 11th

First Baptist Church, 660 Country Way, Scituate will hold a GIANT YARD SALE on Saturday, September 11, 10 am to 2 pm.  There will be white elephant items, furniture, books, tools and more.  There will be a bake table and  luncheon.  Call 781-545-0058 for more information.


Nathan Hale Veteran's Outreach Our Troops Rock! - Saturday, September 11th

The Nathan Hale Veteran's Outreach centers of Plymouth and Middleboro would like to invite you to attend the second annual "Our Troops Rock!" A tribute to 9-11. The event will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Pilgrim Memorial State Park on Plymouth's waterfront from 3:05 - 9:11 PM. The Nathan Hale Veteran's Outreach Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The bands donating their talent for "Our Troops Rock!" include Boston and Bosco, Cheap Voova, Krush and Trax with Emily. Choral Art Society Rehearsals - Monday, September 13th

 The Choral Art Society, a community chorus of the South Shore, now in its 52nd year, begins rehearsals for the fall season on Monday, September 13th, at 7:30 pm at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate.  New members are welcome to join us.  We need voices for all parts – soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.  The ability to read music is not essential, but is helpful.  You do need to be able to “carry a tune in a bucket.”  We are a non-audition community chorus.  The 2010-2011 season’s programming will be a Masterworks Season with the works of Bach, Mozart, Handel, and others.  Prospective new members are welcome to the first two "open" rehearsals of the season, September 13th and 20th, to see if you would like to join us in song.  For more details on membership and joining us, please contact Nancy Boehne at 781-925-3638.  Visit us on the web at www.choralartsociety.org.  We're also on Facebook! 


Braintree Choral Society - Tuesday, September 14th

The Braintree Choral Society’s fall/winter season opens with its first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 14th. The BCS is a non-audition chorus with a long history of high quality choral performance on the south shore. The BCS welcomes new members during September. Tenors and Basses are especially welcomed! Family 50's Sock Hop Dinner and Dance - Saturday, September 18th

 A Family 50's Sock Hop Dinner and Dance will be held Saturday, September 18th, 5:30pm-9:00pm at Immaculate Conception's Msgr Hackett Parish Center, 1199 Commercial Street, E. Weymouth. Come join our parish family for a night of 50's fun.  Prizes for best 50's costume! Comfort food, hula hoop contest, limbo contest, trivia, dancing. Proceeds will help defray costs of pilgrims attending World Youth Day 2011. Tickets can be reserved by calling Ruth Ann at (781) 337-3024.  $10-Adults, $8-Seniors, $5-children.


North Community Church Rib Cookoff - Saturday, September 18th

Save the date! North Community Church located on Old Main Street, Marshfield Hills, MA will hold its 2nd annual Rib Cook-Off on Saturday September 18, 2010 from 12pm-4pm.  If you or anyone you know is interested in entering, please visit the NCC website www.northcommunitychurch.org (events tab) or contact Stephen Halko-Sheehan at 781.834.8244 or shsheehan@verizon.net .  The deadline to enter is September 10, 2010. Space is limited to the first 14 teams.  All proceeds will benefit the NCC mission fund which has been sending volunteers to Biloxi, MS and Appalachia and beyond for the past five years.

Benefit Walk for Animals - Sunday, September 19th

Please join Standish Humane Society for their 16th annual “Folk & Fur Fest” and benefit walk for animals at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham from 10-2pm.  There will be lots of fun activities for dogs and their owners including dog contests, agility training and animal behavior advice.  Donations received during the walk will support a subsidized spay/neuter program and Standish Humane Society’s no-kill cat shelter in Duxbury.  Please visit www.standishhumanesociety.com/html/events.html for more information.


11th Annual Friendship Home Golf Tournament - Monday, September 20th

The tournament will be held at the fabulous Indian Pond Country Club and is looking for auction items. If you have access to sports tickets, baskets, theater ticket packages, vacation homes, dine and stay packages and other fun items, please consider donating them to our auction. The proceeds from our tournament will help us to finish the respite and retreat units and build our vocational and individual/family support programs!


Mattakeesett Garden Club of Pembroke - Tuesday, September 21st

The Mattakeesett Garden Club of Pembroke will begin the new club year with an Open House on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Pembroke Public Library meeting room.  Everyone is invited to meet old and new friends and hear about the upcoming programs for the new season.  There also will be a fun and informative program entitled, "Dahlias, Definitly Dahlias"  presented by Ginny Ballou, a terrific garden lecturer and teacher.  Refreshments will be served and all are invited!  For questions, call Jeana at (781) 826-4032 or Mary Lou at (781)294-8807.


South Shore Support Services Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner/Auction - Friday, September 24th

The tournament is located at the South Shore Country Club in Hingham. The 11 am registration will be followed by a helicopter ball drop and a noon shotgun start. APCSM Fall Yard Sale - Saturday, September 25th

The Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts announces its annual Fall yard sale on Sat. & Sun. Sept. 25th and 26th, 9am-4pm at the APCSM Adoption Center (1300 West Elm St Ext, Brockton).  APCSM yard sales are well known for their huge and varied selection of items and their bake sales are famous for delicious home-baked treats.  All proceeds raised from the sale go directly to providing homeless animals with humane and compassionate care in their time of need.  Donated items for the yard sale are welcome and may be dropped-off at the adoption center now thru 9/18.  For more information about the yard sale or the APCSM, please call: 508-586-2053 or log-on to: www.apcsm.org
