Proponents of the Ward Street athletic fields appeared before Hingham selectmen Tuesday night, with an updated proposal.
The new proposal does away with the more expensive and contentious aspects of the original, forgoing the floodlights and synthetic turf. Also gone are the bathrooms and concession stands. However, some neighbors, like Anne Murphy, are still very leery of the new plan.
Murphy said, "I'm concerned that if this is accepted, that it could be a foot in the door. Maybe next year we'll be fighting turf and lights again."
However, field proponent Jeff Tocchio said, "We'd hope at some level, to work with each other and trust each other and that the addition of one more unlit, grass field, is something that folks can say is good for the kids."
Town meeting rejected the original proposal by voting against 80-foot-high floodlights.
The plan goes before a joint meeting of the planning board and zoning board this Thursday night, at 7 o’clock.
