A woman whose family was hit by tragedy in 2003 comes home to find her family home at the corner of Ferry and Bayberry Road on fire, with her son's furnishings for his new college apartment inside.
"One of the sons Joseph, recently returned from Iraq after serving over there," said Marshfield Fire Chief Kevin Robinson. "He was getting his life reestablished, was moving to his own apartment, going to go to college, and today was moving day, and now all of his contents are destroyed, as well as the rest of the families."
Fire Chief Kevin Robinson says the home at 1106 Ferry Street was destroyed as the fire quickly swept through the home early Saturday morning around 2 o'clock.
When fire fighters from Marshfield and Scituate arrived they found heavy fire visible from every window and door of the 1 ½ story home.
The owner Betsy Powell-Pelriane and her husband Michael came home to find their home filled with smoke, as they made sure no one else was inside, neighbors dialed 911.
Joseph and Caroline Satterthwaite also live in the home, but were not home at the time the fire started.
While the cause remains under investigation, fire investigators says their investigation is focusing around the home entertainment center in the first floor living room.
"This is a family that has connections to Marshfield and I think the community will step up, as well as the Veterans Agent as soon as they find out about this, that we have a veteran in need." said Robinson.
