A fire Monday morning in the attached garage of a single-family home in Marshfield destroyed one antique car and heavily damaged another.
“We received a call from 950 Forest Street, indicating he had a fire in his garage. On arrival of the companies we found smoke and fire from the attached two-car garage with some extension into the breezeway,” said Marshfield Fire Chief Kevin Robinson. “Companies went to work on an aggressive interior attack and held the fire to the area of origin. Unfortunately the gentlemen lost his two antique automobiles a ‘72 Volvo and a ’62 Austin Healey that were in the garage, that he was working on at the time of the fire.”
Chief Robinson says the fire started after the homeowner, Stewart Barry, had been doing welding work on his 1972 Volvo.
Barry was in the house when he started to smell smoke. He dialed 911, and went outside to pull a street box.
Robinson says the fire was contained to the garage and a breezeway.
