Pembroke's Zoning Board of Appeals grants a use variance for 3 Angels Tattoo, clearing the way for Pembroke's first body art studio to open for business.
Husband and wife Adam and Colette Worrall plan to open the tattoo shop at 314 Mattakeesett Street in Pembroke between Lindy's General Store, which is owned by the Worrall family, and Dimitri's Pizza.
Adam Worrall says 3 Angels Tattoo will be a well-run business with no negative impact to the community.
Under Tuesday's zoning board decision, the body art studio may only serve customers by appointment and may only be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday.
Worrall says a number of people are hoping to get tattooed at 3 Angels Tattoo, including a soccer mom, airline executive, school guidance counselor and police officer.
Worrall says he plans to renovate the business's interior, hire some experienced body artists and open for business in three or four months.
ZBA Chairman Greg Hanley says the business owners and their attorney Bob Galvin have addressed the concerns of neighbors.
Hanley says the zoning board and building department plan to re-file a zoning amendment to allow for body art establishments in an area off Oak Street and an industrial complex.
The amendment would go before town meeting in the spring following a public hearing.
Both Hanley and Galvin say 3 Angels Tattoo would be grandfathered if the amendment passes.
