Constructed by a Bavarian toy maker in 1959, the festive, child-sized, animatronic display was a Boston mainstay in the Jordan Marsh department store until it closed in 1972, reopened, and then was donated to the city in 1998. Boston kept the display alive until 2006, when a shortage of revelers willing to pay to see the turn of the century spectacle forced it back into mothballs. Now it's found a new stage.
